Broker Tip #10: Beware, The Devil in the Detail …

Q:Do insurers classify asbestos roofs as ‘Standard’ or ‘Non-Standard’?

Most insurers provide a Definition of Property* in their Schedule of Insurance. Asbestos & Thatch roofs are typically excluded from these definitions.

Q: What can you take from this?
Knowledge is power. Always declare ‘non-standard’ roof & wall construction types.

*DEFINITION OF PROPERTY
All the buildings insured and described in the Schedule including all outbuildings thereto (constructed of brick, stone, concrete or metal on metal framework and roofed with slate, tiles, metal or concrete unless otherwise stated in the Schedule) and sporting and recreational structures, landlord’s fixtures and fittings therein and thereon, walls (except dam walls), gates, posts, fences, and tarred or paved roads, driveways, paths or parking areas.
